Gentlemen, Start Your Engines

The sun is setting earlier; high school football teams are practicing in full pads; teachers are preparing lesson plans; and the evenings are getting cooler. So we know the Midterm Elections are just around the corner. Campaigns are in high gear.

Everywhere we turn there is bad economic news. New jobless claims are up. The unemployment rate remains at 9.5%. Irresponsible government spending, sky-high deficits, job-killing taxation, and burdensome regulations have driven us to the brink of a "double-dip recession." We must not go one step further down this road.

DFL gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton and President Obama agree that the way to grow an economy is to raise taxes and redistribute wealth. They are wrong. Minnesota's economy, just like the U.S. economy, will thrive as a result of job creation in the private sector, not growth of the public sector. "Tax the rich" schemes do not work. Successful business owners are the job creators. Obama, Pelosi and Reid have taken us to the precipice of financial ruin in an attempt to "stimulate" the economy. Senator Michael Bennett (D-CO) recently pointed out that we have incurred trillions of dollars in debt and "we have nothing to show for it." No, that is not a typo. Bennett is a Democrat.

Many states are no better off than the federal government. New York, Massachusetts, California and a handful of other states have tried to tax and spend their way to prosperity. Now those states are in dire financial straights. With a looming $5.8 billion deficit, Minnesota is perilously close to heading down that path. Let's not go there. We must elect Tom Emmer to be the next Governor of Minnesota. In addition we must elect fiscal hawks to the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives. Elections matter. Mark November 2nd on your calendar.
